About the Brazilian tanager

The Brazilian tanager is a small, vibrant bird found along the coasts of eastern Brazil and northeastern Argentina. Males are recognised by their vibrant red colourings, black wings and black tail feathers, while females are predominantly brown with a colourful orange breast. They can grow up to 18cm tall and lay clutches of 2-3 bluey-green speckled eggs

Brazilian tanagers are omnivores that eat a variety of fruits, seeds and insects

Conservation

Despite ongoing deforestation within their habitat, Brazilian tanagers face no major threats and maintain a status of Least Concern on the IUCN Red List
